For the Crust:
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 lb ground pork
- 1 onion, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
- 1 can (6 oz) tomato paste
- 1/2 cup red wine
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp dried basil
- 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tbsp olive oil
Instructions
1. Prepare the Crust:
- Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add onions and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes.
- Add garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
- Add ground beef and pork, breaking it up with a spoon. Cook until browned, about 8-10 minutes.
- Stir in tomato paste, crushed tomatoes, red wine, oregano, basil, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper.
- Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat to low. Cover and let cook for at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Taste and adjust seasonings as needed before serving.
