For the Crust:
- 1 1/2 cups warm water
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1/3 cup baking soda
- 1 large egg, beaten
- Coarse sea salt for topping
Instructions
1. Prepare the Crust:
- In a bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and melted butter. Mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour.
- Preheat oven to 450°F (230°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Divide the dough into small pieces and roll into bite-sized balls. In a large pot, bring water and baking soda to a boil. Boil pretzel bites in batches for 30 seconds each.
- Place boiled pretzel bites on the baking sheet. Brush with beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse salt. Bake for 10-12 minutes until golden brown.
